Labeled as being Hard Rock, Post Grunge, Alternative Metal and Alternative Rock, Nickelback’s ground breaking musical performances often leaves a crowd of millions wanting more. Nickelback was formed in Hanna, Canada as a cover band during the explosive post grudge music scene.
The band was formed by Mike Kroeger, Chad Kroeger, Ryan Peake and Ryan Vikedal in 1996. It is rumored that the bands name originated from a story by bassist Mike Kroeger and his former job at Starbucks where he supposedly would give the customers a "nickel back" and hence came the bands name.
The self managed band released two LP's on their own label. Their debut album, Curb, failed to produce any top 10 songs in 1996. Songs from this album include the tracks "Fly", "Window Shopper", "Just Four", "Falls Back On", and "Curb"
However, the bands follow up album, The State performed well for them on tour in 1998; producing the hit song "Leader of Men" and growing their audiences to record numbers. Other tracks on this album include an acoustic version of "Leader of Men", "Hold Out Your Hand", "Worthy to Say", "One Last Run" and "Diggin' This".
In 2001, the band released Silver Side Up and became more successful when the group won Best New Group as well as Best Rock Album at the Juno Awards. Hits from this album include the tracks "Too Bad", "How You Remind Me", "Never Again" and "Good Times Gone".
Silver Side Up was a pretty solid album all in all. The band’s blend of emotionally driven lyrics and solid guitar licks make you always want to hear more from them.
2002 yielded even more success for the band as they won even more awards from the MuchMusic Awards. Winning both Best Video for their song "Too Bad" as well as the Much Load Award that same year.
The next year the band again amazed millions with the release of the highly revered album The Long Road. That album sold a whopping 5,000,000 albums and spreading their music to masses of devoted fans. The single "Someday" reached an impressive 7 on the Billboard Music Charts. 2003, also brought the band the Song Writer of the Year Award.
The group also won a Group of the Year in the Canadian Juno Awards in 2004. Other tracks on this album include "Feelin' Way Too Damn Good", "Because of You", "Figured You Out", and "See You at the Show". The following year brought change to the band when drummer Ryan Vikedal left the band and drummer David Adair, formerly of 3 Doors Down, joined the group.
The band had now honed their skills as established artists and worked on their 2005, All the Right Reasons album. This album was a huge success for the band and won the band a choice set of awards including Rock Album of the Year from the Juno Awards, MuchMusic's MuchLoad Best Rock Video,Favorite Pop/Rock Album from the American Music Awards and an astonishing 3 Billboard Awards, Duo/Group of the Year, Hot 100 Artist Duo/Group of the Year, and the convened Rock Album of the Year Award. Delivering both a powerful stage performance as well as appeasing millions of fans with compassionate heartfelt lyrics. Nickelback has no problem boosting high intensity crowds to a comfortable level of frenzy. Songs such as "Side of a Bullet" and "Animals" show the sheer raw energy of the band and are even more meaningful when witnessed in concert.
After the release of All The Right Reasons the band embarked on a prestigious three years of steady touring. Taking their time to define their musical style. It was during this time the band wrote their highly anticipated Dark Horse album and are currently on tour performing such deep and meaningful songs such as "Gotta Be Somebody" and "If Today was Your Last Day" and also the recent hit "Something in Your Mouth". To this day, the group continues to entertain fans of millions across the globe.
Nickelback has a lot of promise, as a group. They could be one of those bands that doesn’t ever stop touring and just continues doing shows for many years to come.
I mean they’ve had 5, well technically 6 albums out so far and are still producing solid shows and some pretty rocking tunes.
Their songwriting is very well written and they are pretty good at their musical arraignments.
It’s like every album, this band is getting progressively better and that’s what music should do. It should get progressively better all the time otherwise it would be bland and boring.
Music needs character and that is something that Nickelback does reasonably well in their music; produce character.
If you listen to their music and follow the band, you’ll notice that the band’s image has also evolved over the years. Where they once appeared as struggling musicians they have evolved to rockstar status.
