For twelve years the Foo Fighters have amazed audiences with powerful stage performances and brilliant encores. This high-energy band get's it's name from a World War II reference to a secret force that allegedly research UFO's .
The band was started by front man, Dave Grohl after the collapse of Band-Legend Nirvana in 1995. Their heavy riffs accented by Grohl's in-your-face attitude have lead the band to much success including sold out concerts and arenas and millions of record sales.
Their first album, the self-titled album, he worked with friend Barrett Jones to debut the work that Grohl had formed after the suicide of rock God Kurt Cobain.
This collection showcased songs that the Rockstar had been working on privately when not playing for Nirvana.
For this album the star decided to form a full-fledged band instead of doing everything solo. To do this he teamed up with bassist Nate Mendal and drummer William Goldstein of Sunny Day Real Estate and ex-Nirvana Guitarist Pat Smear.
"This is a Call" the first single from the album went Platinum in 1996. "Big Me" also became a huge hit from this album. The album was released on the the Capital/Roswell Record Label.
The first few video's from the Foo-Fighters showed how the band had transformed from dirty grunge rock into a more artistic direction. For instance, the video "Big Me" was a blatant parody of the then popular "Mentos" commercials.
With this direction, the band poked fun at themselves in an attempt to gain popularity among the masses. It worked too, making the their music videos both entertaining to watch but also good on the ears. They had successfully mixed well composed music and powerful vocals to create a concrete product of musical enjoyment.
Their second album The Colour and the Shape produced more hits for the group including "Monkey Wrench" and "My Hero". This was the first album ever recorded by the band. It was during this time that drummer William Goldstein left the group and former Alanis Morissette drummer Taylor Hawkins signed up for the band.
Also, after cutting this album, Pat Smear left the band and the position went to Franz Stahl who also left the band shortly afterward. It was during this time that the band took on definition as performance artists as the group explored creative avenues within their career.
"Everylong" was also on this album and marked Dave's evolution as an artist. The stars rock inspired innuendo's of American pop culture shaped millions of fans across the globe. Though video's of this caliber he and the rest of the band have expanded many mines and lives through the art of story telling.
Still holding strong, the Foo-Fighters recorded their 1999 album under the RCA/Roswell label Their is Nothing Left to Lose adding guitarist Chris Shiflett to the band. Chris Shiflett used to belong to No Use for a Name.
This album included the popular "Learn to Fly" song and won the group a Grammy that year for Best Short-Form Music Video. In this video, front man, Grohl parodies himself, playing several different characters. This video also featured cameo's from Tenacious D. The group also received a Grammy for Best Rock Album.
2002 the, now complete, band releases One by One. Popular hits included the phenomenal "Times Like These" and "All My Life" sound tracks. "All My Life" received two Grammy's that year for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Album. The song "Low" also appeared on this album.
In your Honor was the bands 2005 release. This album featured "DOA", "Best of You", "Virginia Moon", and "Miracle". Video's were produced for "Best of You" and "DOA" and the record sold well.
2006, the Foo Fighters once again graced audiences with their presence. The live Skin and Bones album contained great hits like "Skin and Bones", "Marigold"and live performances of "Times Like These", "Next Year", "Big Me", and "Everlong".
The next year, the band enjoyed huge success once again with their Echoes, Silence, Patients and Grace release. This album contains awesome rocking songs like "Long Road to Ruin" and "The Pretender". This album has also won the band two Grammy's for Best Rock Album and Best Stage Performance for "The Pretender"
As of September of this year the band has decided to take a rest from touring and production for a while. Perhaps in the near future the band will form another album, for now their status is unknown.
